How did albino Dobermans appear?

The very first mention of unusual white Dobermans dates back to 1976. It was then that scientists learned that the gene responsible for the white color of the coat, in contrast to the color (B) and diluting (D) genes, is located in a completely different locus.

It should be noted that, as a rule, representatives of this breed there are four main colors and dilution and color genes are responsible for their quality and saturation. But, since the white gene absolutely does not interfere with the manifestation of primary colors and does not affect them in any way, it is believed that it is not an independent color.

Separately, it is necessary to clarify the fact that Dobermans born with an unusual and unnatural white coat are incomplete or, as they are often called, partial albinos. However, in reality, albino dogs of this breed have a light cream-colored coat with a slight, almost imperceptible bronze tint.

Some people like this unusual coat color. But, as a rule, the vast majority tend to consider these white dogs rather the unfortunate victims of a mutation, and not full-fledged representatives of their breed.

Some features of albino Dobermans

Another distinguishing feature of Albino White Dobermans is that they have very light blue eyes. In addition, all white Dobermans suffer from increased sensitivity to light.

Light phobia plays a significant role in the life of these majestic dogs and in many ways it influences their behavior and some habits. Albinos often have to cover their eyes and therefore they regularly collide with objects around them and because of this they seem slightly clumsy and rather clumsy.

Unfortunately, often professional dog breeders refuse to breed white Dobermans. And this is due not only to the terrible photophobia of all the “white” representatives of this breed. First of all, breeders are concerned that albino dogs that find themselves in an unfamiliar place become very nervous and sometimes their reaction to a particular action is quite unpredictable.

Professional breeders put forward high demands on dogs and try to ensure that this breed only improves over time. Of course, there are also people who consider white Dobermans to be an original curiosity, however, at the same time, they understand that such dogs will never win prizes at exhibitions or competitions and will be more like just true friends, and not formidable defenders.

White Dobermans – partial albinos

As we have already said, white Dobermans are incomplete or partial albinos. For some time, scientists were seriously interested in this unusual phenomenon, however, in the end, they came to the conclusion that albinism is a rather harmful mutationnegatively affecting the entire body.

One of the features of white Dobermans is that they have an abnormally developed retina. That is why they suffer from poor eyesight throughout their lives and often behave like real cowards.

In general, it is worth noting that albino Dobermans are considered very problematic and, if I may say so, “difficult” dogs that require a certain approach and angelic patience. In addition to photophobia, they usually develop complete or partial deafness over time.

If you ever decide to get an albino dog of this breed, then you need to be prepared for some additional difficulties. The owners of white Dobermans regularly face the following problems:

Unfortunately, albino Dobermans do not fit into the overall picture and thought to be the result of an unfortunate mutation, and not a successful experiment to improve all the indicators inherent in this breed of dogs. Many people consider the white color of Dobermans to be something unnatural and repulsive, so dog breeders have recently been trying to abandon the further breeding of albino Dobermans.

Fashion for albinos

Previously, albino Dobermans were in some demand and the price for them, as a rule, was much higher than for dogs of the same breed, but with a more familiar and natural coat color. However, since white Dobermans are not of particular value for the further development and improvement of the breed, such an overestimated cost cannot be called justified.

We can say that people who sold albino Dobermans at crazy prices were more likely to be engaged in fraud. After all, as we said earlier, Dobermans with an unnaturally white or light cream coat color will not be allowed to participate in all kinds of exhibitions or competitions.

This is primarily due to the fact that an unusual coat color initially disqualifies them, as it is considered a birth defect. Dogs with albinism will never be able to oppose their relatives on an equal footing and therefore they are simply not allowed to participate in competitions and exhibitions.
